Bad Kids Give Me Migraines

I knew it was going to happen eventually but I thought maybe I’d get lucky and avoid it- someone messing with my ride.

I’m a little sensitive about my car. You see it’s the first new car I’ve had (my last car was given to me by my grandma); and it’s less than a year old. No, it’s nothing fancy but it’s mine, mine, and mine.jeepliberty.jpg

Car alarms go off all the time and I usually end up running to the window to check on my baby. This can get annoying; especially when it’s 3AM and five have gone off. Lucky for me I accidentally set off my alarm the other day and I realized that my alarm doesn’t sound like the alarms that usually go off. That means I don’t have to jump up at every hint of a chirp.

So I was laying in the bed surfing the net when I hear a bunch of kids outside. Don’t they have school? Is what I was thinking and I hoped they’d quiet down soon. No sooner than I had them tuned out I hear - chirp, chirp, beepbeepbeepbeep and a kid goes “Oh crap!” I thought the same thing as I jumped up and saw my lights flashing and heard the car going off.

I said some dirty words and ran outside. The kids were already down the street.

When I got back in my head was killing me.

Manassas Virginia is sounding real good right about now.

DC-onomics

I didn’t do too well in economics (*cough* I failed it the first time *cough*), yet I still feel the need to have discussions regarding the cost of living in DC in relation to a persons income.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that there is no good reason to live here on a long term basis unless:

-You grew up here

- You work for the feds

-You were offered a really well paying job

-You are here for school

I am speaking from the point of view of someone who wants to accumulate wealth. I do realize that’s not important to everyone, but that is important to me. So right now moving to somewhere like Oklahoma is looking really appealing. However I need to complete my research so that I can make an educated argument.

Here’s what I’ve found so far on the cost of living in DC.

Do You Really Need to Make That Much to Live Near DC? - Posters on this forum are saying either you are rich or poor in DC, there is no middle class

Priciest US Cities (2006) - DC ranked #5

The cost of living in Washington, D.C. is 81% above the national average

I’m still searching for more.

Dining with the Birds

I was walking down 18th Street with the Mr. and to my left was a nice outdoor dining area. As we continue walking I notice a swarm of birds gathering on top of one of the tables- someone has left out the chips and dip and the birds are going to town!

“Ewww, how sanitary” I said as four birds run past me dragging pieces of tortilla.

Imagine my surprise when he said “here we are” and proceeded to walk in the door.

lauriolplaza.jpgI rolled my eyes as the host said “Outdoor or indoor table”.

“Indoor!!”, I said and thus began my experience at Lauriol Plaza.

Pros:

The staff was very friendly.

The food came quickly.

It was easy to find a parking space.

Cons:

The salsa was the most disgusting salsa I’ve ever tasted. I’m not trying to be harsh but it was nasty. In all fairness the Mr. said he liked it and it was good…but he also likes Pickle & Sour Cream chips so keep that in mind.

It wasn’t very crowded (really, it wasn’t) but they sat us right next to another party. There was about 1 ft of space between us, and the other party happened to be loud, so we learned a whole bunch of stuff that we had no business hearing.

Recommendations: Don’t just take my word for it. Read some other opinions on the place.

DC is The Source of My Insanity

Things are not going as planned so it’s time to improvise. This whole “urban lifestyle” is not working for me. So instead of sitting here and complaining for the next year, I am going to start looking for places to move.

I hardly get any sleep because every night there is some sort of commotion outside. Alarms going off every five minutes, people screaming like damn fools at 3am, noises that sound very similar to guns (Mr. said it was firecrackers) scaring the crap out of me. Plus there’s the constant paranoia that someone is going to steal my car or break in here and kill me.

It’s time for me to move

But since it’s not just about me anymore, sadly I can’t rush back to Michigan. So I need to find a very suburban place to live that’s close enough to DC for the Mr. to get back and fourth to work via the Metro. I’ll start looking in Maryland but I don’t know what cities in Maryland are close to DC. So someone please drop me a line and help me out.

Thanks.
